After soldiers' four long years of service and sacrifice, returning them to civilian employment was a priority for the Australian Government. The Repatriation Department:


  • established employment bureaus;
  • implemented preferential employment schemes;
  • provided vocational training to help those whose apprenticeships and education were disrupted by enlistment; and
  • organised rehabilitation activities.
